What is DroneShell?

DroneShell is a self-sustaining wireless charging system that provides a solar-powered landing platform as well as a secure shell that covers the UAS once it lands and protects it from wind and dirt. Once secure, the drone can recharge for future flight.

What is it for?

DroneShell is designed for indsturial use, extending the travel time of UAS vehicles traveling in the smart cities of the future. Additionally, the device enables reconnaisance vehicles to be stored safely during travel (on less battery) in remote locations.

Who built it?

In the fall of 2016, industry leader Thales created the Thales Arduino Challenge, designed to give insight into what life at the company is like.

From this challenge, a team of students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University developed the DroneShell.

What's next?

After winning at the university, state, and country levels, Team DroneShell (USA) is competing with the winners of 6 other countries in a global online vote.
